Improving production efficiency is a major priority for many businesses, and when a leading supplier of gypsum contacted us looking for help to improve the efficiency and maintenance of a fan used in their factory, we knew we could help.

The company, based in West Yorkshire, are a major producer of plasterboard which leads to a very dusty environment. To counter the volume of dust produced, the factories extraction system removes a massive quantity of it from the atmosphere all day.

Over time the fan within the extraction system gradually gets covered in the dust, which results in the blades getting thrown out of balance and system malfunctions. This repeat problem means increased maintenance costs and production delays due to the repair works. Additionally, these production delays cause a decrease in profits as less plasterboard is produced.

Thanks to our experience with previous similar projects, we had a release coating system fit for the job.

We prepared the fan for refurbishment by pyrolysis oven to burn off any existing coating and residues before shot blasting the substrate ready for spraying.

The fan was coated with our PR245 Two Coat Release System by spray application. PR245 provides excellent non-stick properties meaning the fan blades can simply be wiped down with a damp cloth in situ rather than the fan having to stripped down completely for cleaning.

The ease of cleaning has saved the customer time, reduced maintenance costs significantly and increased production capacity thanks to the minimised cleaning downtime.
