Silicone Coatings

Silicones have historically, since the early 1960s, been the “go to” release coatings (before fluoropolymers), specifically in the bakery industry.

They come in two iterations:

1. Silicone glaze – a hard resin, with good medium term release (used in combination with an additional release agent)
2. Silicone rubber – a flexible polymer, with superb release (superior to fluoropolymers)

They possess additional properties such as:

• High temperature resistance – In use temperature up to 230°C, continuous
• Chemically inert
• All coatings applied are on the FDA positive list for use in food contact applications, Regulation 21 CFR 177.1550 and 21 CFR 177.2440. They also comply with “the materials and articles intended to come into contact with food regulations (EC 1935/2004)”
