Smoothing things over…
Recently we were approached by a carpeting manufacturer looking for a coating solution for their mould panels.
The client, who produce acoustic carpeting for the automotive sector, currently use uncoated moulds which are sprayed with a release agent prior to moulding each carpet section.
Although this process ensured a smooth release of the carpet from the mould, it left a residue on the finished product which then needed to be cleaned, resulting in additional labour and increasing costs. The client wanted to eliminate the need for cleaning, and in doing so reduce their costs.
In addition to the release properties required, the customer specified that the final surface finish had to be as smooth as possible with no blemishes to avoid any “texture” being visible on the finished product.
On arrival, the moulds were put through our pyrolysis oven process to burn off any residues on the surface before being shot blasted ready for coating.
The moulds were then coated with our PR235HB 5 Coat System by spray application. This particular coating system was chosen as it imparts maximum release properties and can be applied at a high build thickness to achieve the smooth finish desired by the client.
All work was completed by our dedicated team over the weekend to ensure there was no impact on the customer’s production.
