What Is A Hydrophobic Solution Made Of?

Generally, hydrophobic coatings are made up of various materials where some provide the roughness while others provide low surface energy. The following are possible bases for hydrophobic coating.

  • Manganese Oxide Polystyrene
  • Zinc Oxide Polystyrene
  • Precipitated Calcium Carbonate
  • Carbon Nano-Tube Structures
  • Silica Nano Coating
  • Fluorinated Silanes or Fluoropolymer coatings

Out of this base, the most efficient and cost-effective to use are silica-based coatings. This is because they are gel-based and can be easily administered using an aerosol spray.

This is why, as of present, silica-based hydrophobic solutions are the most popular for use.

How Long Do Hydrophobic Coatings Last?

This is a question that hasn’t got a definite answer as there are a lot of variables…

However, hydrophobic solutions applied on a particular object can between 2-8 months under direct sunlight and extreme outdoor conditions.

Do Hydrophobic Solutions Really Work?

Hydrophobic solutions are tested and proven to work.

Some examples that you’ll come across every day are:

  • Smartphones – Companies coats their phones with hydrophobic solutions so that they can be submerged for as long as 30 minutes.
  • Car windshields – They use hydrophobic solutions as a coating to aide visibility during heavy rains.
  • Car paints – These have hydrophobic ingredients so that the car’s components are protected from rust.

What Does Omni-Phobic Mean?

Omniphobic solutions are designed to repel any type of liquid, as well as act as durable coatings to protect both household and industrial materials from damage caused by liquids.

And more specifically, work great at preventing stains and other similar things from sticking to a particular object.

What Is An Omni-Phobic Solution Made Of?

An Omni-phobic solution can be made with different bases that repel water. At present, the mixture of siloxane monomer and sulphuric acid is the most popular.

How Long Do Omni-Phobic Coatings Last?

Again, just like Hydrophobic coatings, this can differ greatly.

However. omni-phobic coatings last longer compared to hydrophobic coatings. With most taking 1 to 3 years before a recoat is needed.

The duration of the effectiveness of a coating is primarily dependent on the formula that the factory uses for its production, and therefore it’s important to research the specific product to see how long the effects of a particular omni-phobic solution before use.

Do Omni-Phobic Solutions Really Work?

Omni-phonic solutions are widely used in the industrial sector and to great success.

For example, some manufacturers utilize omni-phobic solution to produce self glass that to stop streaking from adverse weather conditions.
