Product Release Helping Keep The A350 In The Skies

Published:

Even now, modern flight is still an amazing achievement.

Keeping a metal tube 35 thousand feet up in the air, travelling at 565 miles per hour with 300 people inside is still mind blowing when you think about it.

This has come a long way since the Wright brothers, a couple of bicycle engineers decided they would take up the challenge of manned flight and successfully fly their ‘plane’ 120 feet at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina in December 1903.

Although that first flight was only 20 feet above the ground it still made history and began our love affair with air travel.

Now, the engineering required to keep these machines up in the air is so advanced it takes many different components and companies working together to make this a possibility.

All of which have to comply with the strictest standards as any failure as would be unimaginable.

We are proud to say Product Release is one of them.

Specifically, we are involved with the application of Xylan to parts used with the Airbus A350.

The Airbus A350 was designed to succeed the A340 and to compete with the Boeing 787 and 777 with the development program of the A350 alone costing around 11 Million Euros with a single aircraft fetching on average 350 Million Euros.

To anyone outside the industry these numbers seem astronomical, however, considering as of February 2019 Airbus has received 893 orders for A350s from 51 customers worldwide it appears it was worth it.

Since the first prototype first flew on 14 June 2013 from Toulouse there are now 265 currently built and in operation across the globe.

What is Xylan?

Xylan coating is generally used to reduce friction, improve wear resistance, and for non-stick applications along with protecting the metal from corrosion. It is especially popular in the automotive and aerospace sectors and is the flagship brand from one of our partners Whitford.

At Product Release we look forward to carrying on this successful relationship with Airbus over the coming years and being one of the cogs helping push aviation barriers and allowing global travel to be even more accessible to the public.

If you would like any more information on the non-stick coating services that Product Release can provide for your business, then get in touch with a member of our technical team, who can discuss your requirements.
