Product Release faces a new challenge…
During the pandemic, we all faced new challenges, not only as individuals but within our business practices. We were approached by a well-established engineering company in the northwest with a new challenge.
The release coating on one of their customers’ face mask moulds was not performing as intended and was severely impacting production. Due to the high demand for the end product, this was one of their clients’ fast-moving products. They needed a solution, and fast!
The aluminium moulds had been coated with a release non-stick coating by their previous supplier but was not able to withstand the high-volume continuous production runs. As such, the coating stopped being effective a lot sooner than expected and led to big issues during production and increased downtime to clean the moulds.
At Product Release, we always rise to the challenge and this one had a ticking clock. A 24 hour turnaround to be exact.
We collected the moulds from the customer and brought them to our Liverpool site for refurbishment.
Firstly, the moulds were subjected to our pyrolysis oven process which removed the existing coating and any other contaminants from the substrate. The moulds were then shot blasted before spray application of our PR175 Two Coat Fluoropolymer Release Coating System.
Consisting of a pigmented primer and high release fluoropolymer topcoat, this system is designed to impart maximum non-stick properties, to allow easy release of the melt-blown polypropylene face masks.
Once the refurbishment job was completed, the newly recoated aluminium moulds were speedily returned back to the client, all within the 24-hour deadline.
Our client was very happy as production for their customer was resumed with minimal disruption and lost revenue.
