Keeping things rolling…
Recently a returning customer contacted us needing their production tracking and transfer rollers coating. They had previously had some similar rollers coated by us and due to the excellent coating performance on that project, they were keen to use our services again.
The client is a producer of flexible food packaging used for the packaging of items like frozen chips, vegetables and Yorkshire puddings. Their production process involves layering coloured ink onto a continuous roll of the packaging film. The film passes through multiple coating stations where each colour is applied until the final print is finished.
As the film needs to move smoothly and efficiently along the production line to ensure a consistent print, it was vital that the rollers were coated with a superior non-stick finish to improve the flow of the film. For this we selected our PR235HB Black Sparkle 5 Coat System as it provides this property.
To prepare the rollers for coating application, they were subjected to our pyrolysis oven process which eliminates any residues on the surface such as ink from the printing process.
The rollers are then shot blasted to provide a mechanical key for the primer to bond to the metal surface. Multiple layers of topcoat are then applied to build up the required dry film thickness to give a smooth finished coating.
Following spray application, the rollers were returned to the customer within the 48 hour turnaround time they had specified much to their satisfaction.
